Square tubes, due to their high bending rigidity, regular cross-section, easy splicing and positioning, and stable load-bearing capacity, are widely used in construction, machinery, vehicles, transportation, cable trays, high-end equipment, and precision equipment.
Currently, square tube production machines on the market mainly use two processes: round-to-square and direct square forming. So, how should one choose between these two processes?
I. Core Principles of the Two Square Tube Production Line Processes
1. Round-to-Square Process (Indirect Forming): The strip steel is first formed → high-frequency welded into a round tube, then passed through multiple Turkish head sizing units to gradually extrude and deform the round tube into a square/rectangular tube.
2. Direct Square Forming Process (One-Step Forming, DFT): The strip steel does not undergo a round tube transition; the roller system directly bends the steel strip into a square tube blank, then welds and finishes it to produce the finished square tube. There is no intermediate round tube state throughout the entire process.
II. Reference Standards for Selecting Square Tube Production Line Processes
Currently, ZTZG has developed and produced two processes: a round-to-square tube production line without roller changes and a new direct square tube production line without roller changes.
The round-to-square tube-making machine with share-roller can produce both round and square/rectangular tubes.
Through its independently developed mechanical structure, it allows for switching production specifications in the forming section before welding without changing the mold. When producing square/rectangular tubes within a certain range, the sizing section can potentially achieve roller-share production by using a staggered adjustment method.
Advantages of the round-to-square welded pipe machine: The secondary extrusion process thickens the metal at the four corners of the square tube, resulting in better tensile and bending strength.
Suitable for small and medium-sized tube manufacturers with diverse orders and numerous specifications, such as railing tubes, furniture tubes, decorative tubes, and thick-walled general-purpose small tubes.
The new direct-forming, share-roller tube-making machine for square and rectangular tubes produces various specifications. The production specifications can be adjusted and changed online by the motor-driven opening and closing of the rollers.
Unlike other machines on the market, the ZTZG’s opening and closing mechanism is located on the outside of the frame. This improved process structure makes the welded pipe unit more compact and stable.
Advantages of the direct-forming welded pipe machine: Direct forming and one-time bending, uniform wall thickness, no secondary extrusion thinning; Suitable for manufacturers of large-volume single-specification and medium-to-large-specification structural tubes for steel structures, photovoltaic supports, construction machinery, containers, etc.; Lower overall cost for mass production, and higher finished product appearance and dimensional accuracy.
