The difference between seamless steel pipes and welded pipes

Seamless steel tubes are steel tubes made from a single piece of metal with no seams on the surface. Seamless steel pipes are mainly used as petroleum geological drilling pipes, cracking pipes for petrochemical industry, boiler pipes, bearing pipes, and high-precision structural steel pipes for automobiles, tractors, and aviation. (one-shot molding)

 

Welded pipe, also known as welded steel pipe, is a steel pipe made of steel plate or strip steel after crimping and welding. (after secondary processing)

 

The essential difference between the two is that the general strength of welded pipes is lower than that of seamless steel pipes. In addition, welded pipes have more specifications and are cheaper.

 

Production process of straight seam welded pipe:

Raw steel coil → feeding → uncoiling → shear butt welding → looper → forming machine → high frequency welding → deburring → water cooling → sizing machine → flying saw cutting → roller table

 

Seamless steel pipe production process:

1. The main production process of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe:

Tube blank preparation and inspection→tube blank heating→piercing→pipe rolling→pipe reheating→sizing→heat treatment→finished tube straightening→finishing→inspection→warehousing

2. Main production process of cold rolled (cold drawn) seamless steel pipe:

Billet preparation→pickling and lubrication→cold rolling (drawing)→heat treatment→straightening→finishing→inspection

 

Seamless steel pipes have hollow sections and are used in large quantities as pipes for conveying fluids. The welded pipe is a steel pipe with seams on the surface after the steel strip or steel plate is deformed into a circle by welding. The blank used for the welded pipe is steel plate or strip steel.
